Ruth’s Chia Goodness® – Product Review

If you haven’t tried Ruth’s Chia Goodness, I highly recommend you do. Not only for its delicious blend of tastes and texture, but also for its nutritional boost.

I had the opportunity to try 3 of the cereals.  Each one with a base of chia that brings a micro-explosion of ‘boba-like’ goodness. The tiny seeds swell in liquid promoting a gelatin-like substance that add to both mouthfeel and satiation.

Cranberry Ginger bursts with warm holiday flavors of the sweet-tart berries, ginger and pumpkin (seeds). Apple Almond Cinnamon is a blend of sweet-fruity, crunchiness which isn’t derived mainly from added sugars. And Ruth’s Chia Goodness® Chocolate is a delightful blend of rich, crunchy cocoa nibs with the sweetness of dates and sliced almonds. All of these boasting the natural goodness of chia, buckwheat and hemp seeds.

I have to admit. I love them all. But not just for their flavor and textures. It is because their nutritional profile is sound:

  • No more than 10 ingredients (real whole food – that is!)
  • Very little sugar and salt – The sweetness of the product comes mainly from the combination of nuts, grains, spices and a little fruit.
  • Packed with omega 3′s, dietary fiber and the goodness of hemp and buckwheat, it is already a nutrient superstar.
  • With only 3-4 g sugar and 120 mg sodium, it is definitely a heart-healthy choice.

While I’ve enjoy Chia Goodness as recommended (2 TBS with ‘milk’, heated or cold, I like to add 1 TBS of Ruth’s Chia Goodness to Corn Flakes or Uncle Sam’s for a delight of flavor and texture, in addition to more heart-healthy benefits.

The Benefits of Chia:

Chia is a great source of calcium. It is a great source of fiber and contains heart-healthy Omega 3′s. It can be combined with a great many foods because it adds no distinct flavor to change the taste of your snacks/dishes. And it is very satisfying because the individual seeds (about the size of poppy seeds) can swell up to over 10x their original size in liquid. Thus it is best consumed after soaked.

Even though the Aztecs knew the benefits, I am just really hearing about chia seeds!
